Hedendaagse Japanse Muzikant – Contemporary Japanese Musician

Gister stuitte ik op een interessante Japanse Muzikant tijdens een live optreden in het Amsterdamse Muziek Cafe CC. Deze artiest heet Kenta Hayasi. Hij bespeelt een ‘normale’ gitaar met de rug plat op zijn knieën en produceert er Aziatische tonen mee. Daarnaast maakt hij beat muziek, psychedelische zang en covert op zijn manier moderne (westerse) nummers. Met technische hulpmiddelen maakt hij loops en klinkt dan als een eenmansband. Een mooi voorbeeld hoe Azië en Westen gemixt wordt. En met mixen bedoel ik echt samengesmolten. Niet gewoon instrumenten van verschillende culturen bij elkaar gezet in de hoop dat het harmonieus klinkt. Kenta Hayasi lijkt misschien een beetje op de band uit de jaren 80, Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO)*. Deze heeft hij ook op zijn manier gecoverd.
*YMO is een Japanse muziekgroep, opgericht in 1978. De band wordt met het Duitse Kraftwerk genoemd als pioniers van de technopop (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Magic_Orchestra).
Yesterday I came across an interesting Japanese musician at a live gig in Amsterdam Music Café CC. The artist is called Kenta Hayasi. He uses a ‘normal’ guitar with the back of the guitar laying flat on his knees and makes Asian sounds with it. Also beat music, psychedelic music and his own version of (western) covers is blended in (e.g. Pulp Fiction’s soundtrack). With technical appliances he creates loops and sounds like a one man band. A nice example of how Asian and West can mix in music. And by mix I mean really blend in. Not just put some instruments from different cultures together hoping it sounds a bit harmonious. Kenta Hayasi is maybe a bit like the band *Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). This band he has covered in his own way to.
